African Potato, Moringa and Aloe: Traditional Immune Boosters Explained
African potato, moringa and aloe vera are three of the best-known plants in Southern African traditional wellness. They are often combined in immune tonics, but what does each one do, and is it safe to take them?

African potato (ilabatheka, inkomfe)
African potato (Hypoxis hemerocallidea) is a yellow-flowered plant with a dark tuber. It has been used in South African traditional medicine for generations to support immunity, recovery and general wellbeing. It contains a natural compound called hypoxoside. Laboratory research on it is ongoing, but there is little clinical evidence in people.
Safety note: African potato may interact with some medicines, including HIV treatment (ARVs). If you take chronic medication, speak to your clinic or pharmacist before using it.

Moringa
